Dress Code

Things are constantly changing at this day and age. With all the electronic devices and endless means of social media we certainly don’t lack for information. We have multiple arenas of entertainment; webinars, podcasts, YouTube, videocasts, and the list goes on. If you are in my age group, [remember we are select] you probably watched The Jetsons, a futuristic cartoon where they saw each other on a screen whenever they talked on the phone. Imagine that!
So, all that being said, what I find a bit amusing is dress codes! Weddings, rehearsal dinners, receptions or most social events, include a dress code on the invitation. How did we get so swanky?! Before you laugh at me and accuse me of being classless, if I’m the only clueless guest, why are there numerous “dress code” sites on the internet? For heaven’s sake, I found a site with 10 dress codes!
The last one added to the list was, California Casual, seriously! Please tell me what in the world do you wear to that function? Is that only for Californians? What’s next? Midwest Swank?
I’ve been to black tie, black tie optional, casual dressy, and casual smart. I’ve been to many other social events that did not add a dress code on the invitation, and basically, I dressed the same. I knew I needed to shower, ditch my barn clothes and clean up my act. Normally I choose not to embarrass myself or my family! What happened to calling up a friend or family member and asking, “Are you wearing a dress, skirt or pants?” Of course, that requires taking the time to actually communicate and possibly admitting we are socially inept.
Well, all kidding aside, enjoy weddings, graduations and any social event you’re invited to. Stay connected, but in-between these make sure to spend time in the great outdoors and Don’t live old!
